Welcome Back letter
                                                 September 3, 2009

Dear Parents,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and to inform you of several happenings in our classroom this year.
I have taught first, second, and third grades at Bel Air Elementary School in eastern Prince William County. I was also the Reading Specialist there for four years. This is my seventh year at Bristow Run. I am happy to say that this is my thirty sixth year of teaching! I am very excited to be teaching 3rd grade again at Bristow Run this year.
Our daily schedule will include Encore (Math Lab, Computer Lab, Science Lab, P.E., Art, Library, and Music), Language Arts and Social Studies or Science in the mornings. The afternoons will be busy with more Language Arts and Math.
The Encore schedule for our class this year will be:
        Day 1: P.E.                          Day 5: P.E.
Day 2: Music                     Day 6: Computer Lab
Day 3: Science Lab                        or Science Lab
Day 4: Art                       Day 7: Library
Lunch is scheduled from 1:05 - 1:35. I encourage you to purchase your child a lunch ticket to eliminate lost money and tears at lunchtime. More information can be found on the lunch menu.
Your child will have a daily agenda to record their homework assignments in. This agenda will need to travel back and forth between home and school daily so that you can keep up with your child’s assignments. A daily requirement is that each child read 20-30 minutes per night. In addition, there may be a math assignment, social studies/science, or reviewing for a test.
Homework is a very important part of your child’s preparation each day. I will discuss this in more detail at the Back to School Night for grades 2 and 3 that is scheduled for Wednesday, September 23rd at 7:00 p.m.
A folder will be sent home every Friday with your child’s papers, tests, newsletters, etc. This folder is to be returned to school the following Monday. You may keep the contents of the folder each week. This folder will enable you to review the papers with your child and it will also help to keep our lines of communication open.
I am looking forward to working with you to make this year a very successful and positive school experience for your child.
                                             Sincerely,
                                            Mrs. Lee Ann Hollins
